I am an experienced Supporting Artiste / Background / Extra actor performer for film and tv series eg A Series of Unfortunate Events. Harry and Megan series.

I was proud to participate as one of the writers and voices on Snapping the Stiletto, the Essex Witch Trials. See more on that below and for audio.

Whats my voice like?

My voice ranges from friendly, smooth, calm and engaging. Also teacher/authority, educated, professional, clear, stylish even a bit posh. And then the storyteller and witch wise woman. My natural accent is English, Surrey, southern counties, a touch of Essex where I was born.

In the business.

I am a member of Equity and ACTRA. I have a home studio where I use a Blue Yeti and Rode microphones to record and edit in Audacity. I enjoy recording and seek to make the process part of my creative passion and not just a way to earn an income.

Developing good relationships is key. I like to discuss and communicate with my customers on their project. So that I can do my best to understand what they expect from me and me from them. I’m very receptive to collaborations.

My audio demos give you an overview and highlights my vocal skills, though I’m always willing to expand my repertoire.

I’ve presented at Tedx and BiL. As an experienced adult education teacher I’ve written and presented my own courses and talks.

I have curiosity and a natural creative minded view of life. My values include: Wabi Sabi, Nature and Nurture, Community and Mindful (conscious) Awareness.

As a professional voice over actor talent, audio book narrator … when I get paid for this I have to ensure voice quality, get it sounding ‘right’, pronounce with clarity, sound levels and edits. Then there’s the mastering of audio files. I don’t video record myself as not normally required.

So it was a delight to just pick a book up, do a take with an intentional ‘vintage’ sepia video filter and audio hiss backdrop. A few edits yet also leaving some mistakes in as that’s being real about the process.

My payment is simply to myself. To enjoy the process and storytelling and vocal acting the characters.

Though I am also available for hire for vocal work at the Equity and Gravy for the Brain rates. Have worked professionally as background and body double in the film industry and audio book narrator and plenty more.

Japanese Ikigai can be thought of as “sources or objects that bring value or meaning to life” 

Back story: Sarah Hatyn lived in Ramsey, Essex (UK) and in 1645 she was one of many women accused of sorcery and executed. This short story written from Sarah perspective in her last precious moments in gaol before her execution. Written and performed by Linzi Martin.

It is based on documents from the time and was part of Snapping the Stiletto. Revisiting the Essex Witch Trials was a collaboration with the University of Essex, Essex County Council and Professor Alison Rowlands (Prof of History, UoE) and professional author Syd Moore.

If you visit Manningtree in Essex there is a walking tour with QR codes for audible commentary (hopefully still working) and/or a leaflet that can be downloaded or obtained from the local library which lists all the 36 women’s stories and voiced by each writer.

It was an honour to take part in this project that brings to life those women who suffered within these small communities. It was at a time when England had been going through turmoil with plague, famine, civil unrest, war and a change of authority. Much like our current times you could say!

This is not a story about witchfinders and witches. This is a story about women and what happens when superstition, scapegoating, fear and intolerance spin out of control.

Much of the narrative about the 1645 witch-hunt that started in Manningtree and spread to other communities in the Tendring Hundred centres around the witch-finders.

For our Revisiting the Essex Witch Trails project we wanted to put the focus on the women who were accused of witchcraft that year and subsequently imprisoned, persecuted, and many executed.

We approached this by gathering together a group of local women to write a walking trail. First we researched the history, separating facts from fiction, with Alison Rowlands, Professor of History at the University of Essex.

Next, author Syd Moore led creative writing workshops, encouraging us to get into the mindset of these women. The stories and poems are written from the perspective of each of these 36 women. Some have focused on the events of 1645, some have written for the time before and after.

We wanted to show these women for what they were, not victims, but people with lives to live. Some of the women have more than one piece written about them.
